We're Champions again! Glory for CWR/one2one Motorsport duo at glittering London awards ceremony

2018 RAC Dinner

On 17th January Motor Racing Legends crowned the series winners of 2017 in style at their annual awards dinner at the Royal Automobile Club in Pall Mall with MSA Chairman Dave Richards as guest of honour. We're thrilled to report that, for the second year running, Mike Luck and Calum Lockie (above) took the honours in the Under 2 litre class of the Historic Touring Car Challenge for their performances in the giant-killing Classic World Racing / one2one Motorsport BMW 2002ti. Historic racing legend Willie Green presented the boys with their award.

MRL Chairman, Duncan Wiltshire hosted the evening where during the evening's presentation, he confirmed the highlights of the year being; an invitation from Spa Six Hour event for the Pre-War Sports Cars; a return to the 2018 Silverstone Classic for Historic Touring Car competitors; and an invitation to race for both 50s and HTCC at the Thruxton 50th anniversary meeting on June 2/3.

See our winning BMW 320 Historic Touring Car racer at Autosport International this weekend! By kind invitation of the BMW Car Club we'll be on Stand 19.750 in Hall 19 of the National Exhibition Centre from 11th - 14th January. Come and say hello!

Fresh from their double success at the Silverstone Classic, Redditch based Classic World Racing with one2one Motorsport will again be entering two cars at the prestigious HSCC Oulton Park Gold Cup meeting on the coming August Bank Holiday Monday.
The same two cars that won their respective classes last time out will be in the hands of four drivers for the 50-minute Motor Racing Legends Touring Car race. The team's black BMW 2002ti will be piloted by Classic World Racing owner Mike Luck with noted historic racer Calum Lockie as co-driver, while the newly built red BMW 320 E21 will be shared by father-and-son team Mike and Anthony Wilds. Wilds senior is a seasoned professional and former F1 driver who is relishing the opportunity to pit himself against son Anthony in the same car.
one2one Motorsport team owner Mike Norman-Smith says, "We are delighted to have such a strong driver line-up in our two giant-killing BMWs, and can't wait to do battle with the bigger cars again on the twisty Oulton Park circuit".
There's a full programme of historic racing over the weekend, featuring saloons, sports cars and open wheelers. The MRL Touring Car action takes place on Monday 28th August with qualifying at 09.20 and the race at 14.40.

Classic World Racing with one2one Motorsport Excel at the 2017 Silverstone Classic

Redditch based Classic World Racing with one2one Motorsport prepared two BMWs for the Jet Super Touring Car Trophy at the prestigious 2017 Silverstone Classic. Their regular black 1970 BMW 2002ti, which is rapidly gaining a reputation for its giant-killing exploits, was joined in the Group A race by a freshly built 1978 Group 1½ BMW 320 to be driven by team owner Mike Luck in both 20-minute races over the weekend, while driving duties in the 2002ti were shared by former F1 pilot Mike Wilds (Saturday) and experienced GT and Historic racer Calum Lockie (Sunday).
With Calum away racing a Ferrari at Brands Hatch, qualifying was in the hands of the two Mikes. The brand new 320 was quick straight out of the box, with Mike Luck claiming P1 in class, while Mike Wilds secured P3 in his class in the 2002 on his first drive with the team.
Buoyed by their strong qualifying performance, the team were looking forward to Race 1 late on Saturday afternoon. The threatened rain hadn't arrived, so they weren't going to have any advantage over the other more powerful cars around them. From the start, Mike Luck became embroiled in a battle for the class lead with Robin Ward's faster starting three-litre Capri, a tussle which was resolved on the final lap when Mike snatched the win by 0.378 seconds, taking fastest lap into the bargain! Meanwhile things weren't going quite so well for Mike Wilds, for after moving up to P2 in class the car developed a misfire after two laps, with the resultant pit stop to rectify a loose plug lead dropping Mike from contention.
Sunday's Race 2 was run in very different conditions on a soaking wet track. Calum was now in the black 2002, but forced to start from the back as grid positions were decided by results from Race 1. This didn't deter him, and after two sighting laps behind the pace car he was off, vaulting past 11 cars on the first lap, and eventually securing a dominant class win and 18th overall after pulling off a last lap pass on Touring Car legend Steve Soper's Bastos Rover 3500 SD1. Mike Luck in the 320 was never seriously challenged, taking a comfortable class win and fastest lap to complete a perfect weekend – pole, two wins and two fastest laps, a superb effort in a car making its very first appearance on the track.
One2one Motorsport Team Principal Mike Norman-Smith said: "We are absolutely delighted with the weekend's results. It was a real team effort, and the two Mikes and Calum drove superbly to embarrass the big boys in two of the oldest and smallest-engined cars on the grid. Our Lester Owen engines ran like clockwork and we couldn't be happier for ourselves and our sponsors The Clever Baggers, Fuel Safe, and Oscar Jacobs Cars".

We're pleased to say that the giant-killing exploits of our BMW 2002ti have brought the team to the attention of the organisers of the Silverstone Classic, to the extent that they've invited us to field two cars in the JET Super Touring Car Trophy over the weekend of 28-30th July. As this year's meeting doesn't have a race for the MRL Historic Touring Cars we thought we were going to have to give Silverstone a miss, but now we'll be there in  force, with the 2002ti being joined by our latest race car, the BMW 320 E21, a car that has yet to turn a wheel as this is being written. Hopefully, by the time Friday's qualifying comes around we'll have had time to test and iron out the inevitable new-car snags before doing battle round the Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit.

Buoyed by our success at Brands Hatch (see below) the Classic World Racing with one2one Motorsport team travelled to the Aston Martin Owners' Club meeting at Snetterton on 8th July with great expectations for the next round of the Motor Racing Legends HTCC championship. Unfortunately we were about to find out how capricious Lady Luck can be. This was another two-driver one hour race on the Snetterton 300 circuit, a layout that Mike Luck hadn't raced on before, so it was a steep learning curve for him. Fortunately our other driver Calum Lockie has a lot of experience at the track and was able to give Mike some useful tips before he set out for the qualifying session. The circuit layout suited the nimble BMW quite well, with the technical six-turn section from Wilson to Williams giving us the chance to eke out a gap on the bigger cars before the long drag down the Bentley Straight. And so it proved in qualifying with a stunning lap from Calum putting us on the second row in P4, ahead of three Rovers, an M3 and our arch-rival Peter Hallford's Boss Mustang.

Our race went according to plan, with Mike Luck staying in touch with the leaders and handing over a fit and healthy car to Calum Lockie at the halfway mark. Then disaster...two laps into his stint Calum had a huge moment at the end of the straight as the left rear tyre suddenly deflated. Calum skilfully guided the car back to the pits without damaging suspension or bodywork, and slick work by the pit crew saw the car back out on the circuit with the minimum delay, but the damage was done. Even stellar driving from Calum was never going claw back the time lost, but he had a good go, salvaging another class win and P7 overall, so it was a happy team that made their way back to the Midlands that evening. Back at base it was found the tyre had been punctured by a sharp piece of gravel thrown onto the track by a wayward car. So a potential podium finish was lost, but hey, that's racing.

Next round Oulton Park, Monday 28th August at the Historic Gold Cup meeting.

We're getting used to the one2one Motorsport with Classic World Racing BMW 2002ti embarrassing the big boys, but last weekend it went to another level. Qualifying in P4, our drivers Mike Luck and Calum Lockie converted a handy grid position into two class wins and a pair of fourth places overall! Just amazing!

Once again the one2one Motorsport with Classic World Racing took the battle to the big boys in the Historic Touring Car Championship race at the 2017 Donington Classic Festival. Drivers Mike Luck and Ross Hyett put in stellar performances to bring the little 2002ti home in eleventh overall, out of 29 starters, and second in class. A great result, and thanks to our partners Holman Wilfley, Oscar Jacobs and Turnell and Odell for their support. Next outing is on the Brands Hatch GP circuit on May 27-28.

We're going to be on stand 520 in Hall 4 for the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show, staged at the National Exhibition Centre near Birmingham from 11th to 13th November. Our latest "work in progress" BMW 2002 restoration will be there, together with one of our previously restored cars, plus our 2002 ti race car which has just returned from a successful trip to the Algarve Classic meeting at Portimao in Portugal. Come along and meet the team for a chat, the show opens at 10.00 am on Friday.

The one2one Motorsport with Classic World Racing team achieved a stupendous result at the Algarve Classic Festival on the last weekend in October. Racing in the Historic Touring Car Challenge in a 36 car field, our driver Mike Luck brought the BMW 2002ti home in a superb 9th place overall in Race 2, winning the under 2 litre class handsomely. Our pictures below show team members Nick Middleton and Mike Norman-Smith alongside the car chatting to Endurance racing legend John Sheldon on the Portimao grid, Mike diving down the inside of a Rover 3500 SD1 to take 9th place, and the victorious team in the paddock after an epic race. Well done everybody, and huge thanks to our partners The Clever Baggers, Dynamic Bicycles UK, Oscar Jacobs, Holman Wilfley and Fuelsafe.

After successes at Silverstone and Zandvoort the one2one Motorsport with Classic World Racing team are moving to Portimao to pit their BMW 2002ti against the best Europe can offer in the Algarve Classic Festival. Mike Luck, Classic World Racing boss, will drive in two 40-minute races for the Historic Touring Car Challenge over the weekend of 28-30 October.

Benefiting from the excellent weather at this time of the year in southern Portugal, this event gathers over 300 international drivers every year, joined by around 80 local drivers. Paulo Pinheiro, speaking for the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve, is enthusiastic about ACF 2016: "The Portimão circuit is delighted to host again the Algarve Classic Festival. We are certain that the 2016 edition will be a success, thanks to the important synergies established with Diogo Ferrao, who will apply his skills, know-how, enthusiasm and passion for classic cars to help bring to Portimao even more exciting races."

Diogo Ferrao, the organizer of the event, added "I am very motivated to make ACF grow. The organization of this event is centred around the drivers and teams who bring fantastic machines to Portugal."

Our foray onto the International stage at Zandvoort (see news item below) saw driver Mike Luck produce an amazing performance in the black BMW 2002ti to finish in P7 after a race long battle. We were giving away loads of horsepower to the 3.0CSL Batmobiles and the 2002/E30 hybrids, but Mike took to the challenging circuit like a duck to water to get our car up to the sharp end of the field. The atmosphere at the meeting was fantastic and spilled over from the circuit to the town centre where thousands of enthusiasts watched the race cars parade through the streets. Well done to the one2one Motorsport with Classic World Racing team for turning out a fast and reliable car, and special thanks to our sponsors and partners The Clever Baggers, Dynamic Bicycles, Oscar Jacobs Cars and Fuelsafe. A job well done!

Weather conditions were near perfect for the drivers to get to know the BMW ahead of the
important Classic race festivals at Donington Park (30th April - 2nd May) and Silverstone (29-31 July).

Here he is shaking on the deal with Mike Norman-Smith.

Press Release

one2one Motorsport teams up with Classic World Racing to bring two BMW 2002 FIA Touring Cars to the grid.

Warwickshire based BMW Specialists one2one Motorsport are pleased to announce they will be contesting selected rounds of the Motor Racing Legends series in the Historic Touring Car Challenge with a team of two BMW 2002 FIA Group 2 cars.

The cars will be driven by two well respected classic car racers, Mike Luck, owner of Classic World Racing in Redditch (where the cars are prepared) and John Truslove, a commercial property estate agent, also from Redditch.

Mike Norman-Smith, Principal of one2one Motorsport, said “The BMW 2002 has been poorly represented in classic saloon car racing recently, and we’re aiming to put that right by fielding two cars at the Donington Historic Festival and the Silverstone Classic this year. In doing so we will be showcasing the preparation and engineering skills of both one2one Motorsport and our partners, Classic World Racing. We have similar 2002 and 3 Series E21 BMWs in build and available for sale or hire that would be ideal for these events and also the Masters Series ‘70s Celebration series”.

Look out for the one2one/CWR team at Donington Park on 30th April – 2nd May, and Silverstone on 29-31 July. For further information please contact Mike at one2one Motorsport on 07836 610160 or email him:
